Warrior Among Women (a poem)

God gives us a wonderful & beautiful vision for biblical womanhood. From a sermon in 1st Peter, How Holy Women Hope, we shared that vision, which we pray for every woman at King’s Hill, namely, to be a warrior among women. Below is a poem that fits this biblical vision:

Daunting darkness in sudden strikes;
Her reaction—not a gasp but a laugh—
Bowing her knees, she moves to fight.

Foes scheme and stalk her in surprise;
Her counter—not verbal or violent—
Heeding ancient scrolls that kill their lies.

An enemy’s advance draws deathly near;
Her eyes—not to flesh or blood—
Seeing the invisible that conquers fear.

Her captain issues heavenly orders
Her reply—not doubtful or dismissive—
Hastening gladly to her quarters.

Her post greets the moon and beats the sun;
Her hands—not slothful but steady—
Befriending sleep only when work is done.

She finds her strength in the eternal sword;
Her training—in season and out—
Beholding and becoming like her El Gibbor.*

Adorned with holy armor and ambition
Her beauty— not outward but inward—
Summoning her king’s attention.

Happy is she in the God she fears;
Her hope—not this life but the one to come—
Anticipating glory for unending years.

*El Giboor means Mighty God.
